B.A.B.A.: Informal Option in General Business
The study of business is truly interdisciplinary, drawing from such varied fields as economics, political science, psychology, sociology and anthropology. The General Business option is designed for the student interested in a broad perspective that draws from multiple disciplines. General Business gives students the opportunity to explore a wide range of business disciplines, including management, marketing, accounting, financial services, information systems, international business and organizational leadership. Students completing the General Business option will be well-prepared to work in small businesses where their work will span multiple functional areas or in large organizations where they will be involved with cross-functional projects or teams. Students interested in entrepreneurship will also benefit from this option, as it allows them to customize the curriculum while exposing them to all critical aspects of business.
General Business Prerequisites
UW Tacoma students must meet the following prerequisites to apply for admission:
- Have a minimum of 60 credits at time of application
- Have taken at least four business prerequisites
- TACCT 210: Financial Accounting I*
- TACCT 220: Financial Accounting II*
- TACCT 230: Managerial Accounting*
- TBGEN 200: Introduction to Statistics in Business or
TQS 110: Introductory Statistics with Applications - TBGEN 218: Business Law
- TFIN 220: Introduction to Microeconomics
- TFIN 221: Introducton to Macroeconomics
- TQS 211: Calculus
- Have a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA
- Have a minimum cumulative 2.75 business GPA
- Submit a Business School Application and personal statement
- Take the Writing Skills Assessment

General Business Curriculum
Once accepted into the Business School, general business students must complete the following courses for graduation.
- 30 credits of core courses
- TBUS 300 Managing Organizations
- TBUS 301 Quantitative Methods
- TBUS 310 Effective Managerial Communication
- TBUS 320 Introduction to Marketing Management
- TBUS 330 Introduction to Information Technology
- TBUS 350 Business Finance
- 30 credits of upper-division Business courses (TBGEN 311 AND TACCT/TBUS 468 and 469 do not apply)
- TBUS 400 (5 credits) Business Policy and Strategic Management
- Elective credits to bring total to 180
