Fall Quarter 2008

Important Bb Version 8 Upgrade Information!

During the week of September 1st, we will upgrade the Blackboard Learning System from version 7.3 to version 8.0.
During this time no Blackboard data or features will be available for use. If you plan to prepare your course site for fall quarter, please take this downtime into account.

All Fall 2008 new and returning students will need to create a new account since all old student accounts have been removed from Blackboard because of a Blackboard upgrade.

Updated help pages have been added to the instructor and student tabs, including instuctions on how to use the new and improved Grade Center.

For New Faculty:

If you would like to use Blackboard in your courses and need to know where to begin, please visit "Setting Up Your Course" or click on the instructor tab at the top of this page for information on how to get started!

Returning Faculty:

Please remember to make any courses that you are not currently teaching "unavailable" so that students do not see them listed in the course catalog and please "recycle" your courses to remove enrolled user names so students do not continue to have past courses listed in their active course area in Blackboard. Please keep in mind that we still have a significant list of courses following the upgrade of the Blackboard server that have not been restored. If you need any of your courses restored for the upcoming quarter, please send a help request to athelp@u.washington.edu.

For Students:

If you need assistance with creating an account or enrolling in a Blackboard course, check out the "Students" tab at the top of this page. It contains a first-time user guide that will assist you in getting started in the system. If you ever need technical assistance during the quarter, please send an email to athelp@u.washington.edu detailing the issue and we will help you resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Windows Vista users...

At this time, the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system has not yet been certified or deemed to be compatible with Blackboard. We hope that you do not experience any problems while using Blackboard with Vista, but if you do, please send an email to athelp@u.washington.edu describing the issue. Thank you.

Faculty please remember...

  1. RECYCLE your courses at the end of every quarter so students do not see old courses on their Blackboard site.
  2. Please email us if you need a COURSE ID CHANGE or a COURSE COPY performed. There are a few settings that need to be performed in order for you and your students to be able to access the new course site.
  3. You can CHANGE THE COURSE TITLE anytime you need to. Only the Course ID cannot be modified. You can change the course title by going into the control panel/settings/course description.
  4. Please MAKE NON-CURRENT COURSE SITES UNAVAILABLE by going into the control panel/settings/course availability area. This makes the Bb course catalog less confusing for students when they are looking for courses.

Please send an email to athelp@u.washington.edu to report any problems.
